Urine Smells Like Smoked Ham. Is It Hormonal Fluctuation Or Diabetes ?
My urine has been smelling like smoked ham for the past week or so. Very odd. I am 5 foot 6 inches, 135 pounds and 47 years of age. I am possibly perimenopausal and so perhaps hormonal fluctuation has something to do with it. I am also concerned with the possibility of type 2 diabetes as my mother had diabetes. The third concern is a UTI , however, I have had these before without a smoked ham smell. This is new. Any thoughts?
Hi thanks for your question.
Your 47 year old with family history of diabetes and now having smoky urine. These may be symptoms of diabetes.
Get you urine examined for glucose and ketone bodies .
You should also get your fasting blood glucose level done to rule out or confirm the diagnosis of diabetes.
urinary tract infection and premenupause don't produce this type of symptoms.
Hope I answered your question.
