Urinating Large Clots Of Blood, Difficulty Urinating And Painful, Lower Back Pain And Soreness. What Is The Problem?

Hi,

When my Fiancé urinates, a large clot of blood comes out and it's difficult to urinate. She says that her urine is normal in colour nor is it painful to urinate. She does experience pain when the clot is about to exit her urethra. This has been going on since Monday and we're going to see a doctor tomorrow morning. She has told me that her lower back is now starting to feel sore too. What could the problem possibly be? Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for what you do for us.

Hi and thanks for the query,

urinating blood, especially with large clots could be very disturbing. Common causes should be bladder problems, problems at the level of the kidney, infections.

In women however, it is of utmost importance to distinguish blood flow from urinary origin and blood from genital origin. Knowing if she is experiencing her period is important, and examining to be sure the blood is not coming from her reproductive structures is necessary.

Knowing if this is the first time she is experiencing this and any history of bleeding disorders is very useful. A physical examination by her family care physician could direct appropriate tests to be done. Thanks and kind regards. While waiting to consult, I suggest she drinks much water.
