Underwent Surgery On Penis For Abscess. Noticed Cyst Like Formation Around The Stitches. Normal?

hi, I recently went through a surgery on my penis for Abscess. It was located right below the Penis head on top. It all started with a Sebaceous cyst couple years back and then 3 weeks back it inflamed and became painful and full of Pus. When I went to the doctor for check up , the doctor mentioned its Abscess and recommended Surgery under local anesthesia. The first week I took antibiotics and I was not very punctual and was missing doses. The second week the doctor performed surgery. I got 7 stitches . Its been 1 week so far after the surgery and I started to notice small cyst like formation around the stitches and when I press against the skin, it feels hard like there is something under the skin. Does that mean my abscess has spread around the Original Area where it started? did the doctor do a poor job of removing the Abscess ? is this normal? is it because I did not keep the area clean? IM scared to go through another surgery ? Can this be fixed via laser treatment ? Please your valuable response will be greatly appreciated

Hello
Thanks for your query.Based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you had infected sebaceous cyst over your penis which was drained and excised by your DR.

You have now noticed small cyst like swellings aroud the stitches. These cysts or blisters are due to tissue reaction to the suture material and it is a natural phenomenon.
They will fade away once the wound heals up completely.

The hardness around the wound is due to inflammation of the subcutaneous tissue and will get resolved over a period of 2-3 weeks.

Please take broad spectrum antibiotics along with anti inflammatory medication like Diclofenac twice daily .

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to clean your genitals and wound daily with antiseptic solution like Betadine .

Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I suppose your doctor has given you antibiotics to be taken after the surgery. I am not sure if you are taking them regularly. If you do not take antibiotics after surgery, there is every possibility of the surgical wound getting infected and pus formation taking place even if the surgery was done properly.

Having 7 stitches sounds like a significant infected area and you must observe all precaution and take the medications advised to you by your doctor after surgery.

You also acknowledge that the area has not been kept clean by you. This is an important observation. After surgery if the wound is not kept clean, there can be persistent infection in the area and this can require subsequent surgeries.

I suggest you to see your doctor and follow his instructions to get your wound healed fast.

Hope this helps
