Undergone ACL Reconstruction On Knee. Any Chances Of Injury Reoccurring While Playing Sport?

My 16 year old daughter has had ACL reconstruction on her left knee. I know she has to wait 12 months before returning to her sport (she was playing at State level so very high level). What are the changes of reinjury at 12 months and does she have a better chance of not reinjuring because softball is not considered a high risk sport?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

This is to just let you know that the native ACL has got highest tensile strength than any other graft substitutes (like Hamstring tendon, patellar tendon etc) used for ACL reconstruction. So the yield strength of any graft substitute is always less than the ACL

Playing any impact sport has a high risk of injuring the reconstructed ligament. So beware.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
