Treatment For Diarrhea And Vomiting?

Hi, im not sure if I have food poisoning or this Norovirus bug. Im now well into day three of it, still not eaten anything and can just about keep small amounts of water down. Diarrhoea is still very much there too, as well as vomiting last night. Is there anything that I could do, or should be doing?

I am Dr.Endri Katro and I will answer at your questions.

The symptoms that you describe (puke,diarrhea) correlates with gastroenteritis because food poisoning tend to heal faster.

This condition usually needs around 4 to 5 days to heal.

Here are some advice to help your body.

-have plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. It is very important to take fluids to replace the ones that you lose with the diarrhea.
-paracetamol 500 mg for pain
-soup ,rice or pasta
-oral rehydration solutions (OHS), such as Pedialyte. These will replace the electrolites and don't need a prescription.
-sports drink
-have a lot of rest

The symptoms should go away in a couple of days.But if you have fever over 38 Celcius, bloody diarrhea, or if you can't drink any fluids than it is time to check up with your physician.

Remember gastroenteritis can be spread easily.So make sure to avoid contact with a lot of people and wash your hands often.
