Teenager. Out Of Range Thyroid Level In Blood. History Of Mother Having Hoshimotos. Any Blood Tests To Rule Out This Problem?

My daughter is 18 and her thyroid level in her blood work is out of range. I have Hoshimotos for 18 years now. I am concerned she may also. She is heading off to college in 3 weeks to play volleyball and I want to make sure she is alright before she leaves. What would be the best blood tests to ask her pediatrician to do at this time?

Hello,
Hashimotos is an autoimmune disease which tends to run in families and is 5 to 10 times more common in women than men.
Test for hashimotos is the detection of antibodies against thyroid per oxidase in the blood.
You can discuss with your doctor regarding this.
Treatment involves adequate supplementation with synthetic thyroxine hormones and can be done easily although it may take few weeks to arrive at the correct and ideal dose of thyroxine.
Thanks
