Take Dulcolax, Milk Of Magnesium. Feel Bloated And Uncomfortable. Unable To Use Glycolax Prior To A Colonoscopy. Treatment?

My husband is unable to use the glycolax that most people use prior to a colonoscopy. He took 3 dulcolax last night and 4 tablespoons of milk of magnesium this afternoon. He has gone to the bathroom but is very bloated and uncomfortable. He is to start drinking mirolax tomorrow
. Any suggestions on how to help him feel better?

Hi! Thank you for your question and welcome to our site. As you may already know, these types of medicine help clean the bowels but can induce gas production and bloating through bacteria living in our intestines. As such, these laxatives really do have bloating, abdominal pain and even sweating as their side effects. These medicine usually act within 2-3 days. The most important thing is to follow the instructions on how to take them and to drink plenty of fluids. Taking some milk-products with probiotics like yoghurt and other drinks may help to balance the effect of the bad bacteria. I hope I was able to address your concerns! Please let me know if you have further queries.

Take care!
