Swollen Lymph Gland Right Side Of Neck, Pulse Going Up Neck. Taking Antibiotics. Normal CAT Scan. Recommendations?

I have had swollen lymph gland right side of neck for approx. 3 months. Last few weeks stiff neck and pain in neck. Also sometimes feels like I can feel my pulse going up my neck. I do not have high blood pressure. Gland is sore to touch it and been experiencing headaches lately. Been on antibiotic for last 10 days and no change, My Dr, did a cat scan and it did not show anything. Hes talking a biopsy but I think I want it out then they can check it.

Hi,
Thanks for contacting HCM
You have swollen lymph gland right side of neck for approx. 3 months. Normal CT scan of neck.
These finding inconclusive , Better to go for FNAC of swollen lymph node.

Thanks

General & Family Physician Dr. Manjeth Kumar G's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
From your query, I suspect you may be suffering from Tuberculous lymphadenitis.
As CAT scan does not show any thing, You can probably rule out any lymphoma.
But biopsy result is confirmatory.
Because even after 10 days of antibiotics, it does not show any change.
Bacterial lymphadenitis usually responds for antibiotic treatment.
In turn if it is Tuberculous lymphadenitis you need anti tubercular drugs for more than or equal to 6 months depends upon the response to treatment.
If it is lymphoma, you need chemotherapy if possible excision can be done.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
