Swollen lump on side of body, painful, in middle rib

Swollen lump on side of body, painful, in middle rib area Hello, I have a very painful, swollen lump on the left side of my body. It feels like it is between my ribs and skin. It hurts all the time and worse when i cough or breath deeply. I am recovering from a very severe case of bronchitis and have finished my antibiotics . i feel like the bronchitisis is much better but the pain I have described is not any better. I have had an x ray and a ct scan and have an appointment scheduled with a pulmonary doctor. I was very surprised that an explanation was not found for this when the tests were read. I am currently using an Advair 100/50 inhaler daily. Two puffs twice per day and Tramodol for pain which doesn t help much. I am 49 years old and a smoker. I do have slight COPD but was told that is not causing the pain in my side. I am a female and weigh 107 lbs. I have lost a few pounds recently even though I am eating regularly. Any insight would be very welcome. Thank you!

since the lump is in mid rib and is very painful it can be a abscess (which is less possible) and the most probable may be a rib fracture which can be as a result of excess cough during chest infection. Also since the pain is more when taking deep breath so this possibility is more. Please consult your doctor to discuss and find the reason.
