hello, my husband went swimming in a salt water swimming pool about 3 hours ago, now his eyes are swolen and red and extremely irritated. we have washed out his eyes with warm water and have put in a few eye drops into each eye and is resting with a cool cloth over is eyes, this is unusual. should we go to the walk in clinic?

Hi, From your history it is suggestive that your husband is suffering from conjunctivitis. It may be viral/ bacterial or allergy type. If there is discharge associated with swelling and redness it may be bacterial/ viral conjunctivitis. If there is more of itching and redness it may be allergic conjunctivitis. So try some antibiotic drops 4 times a day along with tear substitute 6 times a day. If the signs and symptoms are not subsiding in 5 days show to your nearest ophthalmologist. TC...

It could be chemical conjunctivitis or an infective conjunctivitis..
Better to consult an ophthalmologist for proper evaluation.
In the meanwhile you can use some lubricating eye drops..
