Swelling Of Lymph Nodes, Tenderness, Puffiness, Red Patches, Sinus Infection. On Penicillin. What Is Wrong?
wife has tender swelling of the lymph nodes on the left side of face under jaw with puffiness extending up past the ear and upper part of the hair line; ear is blocked; eye is with red patches on white part of eyeball; skin is hot to touch and inflamed;
she had a sinus infection a while back but stopped the medication, as doctor prescribed penicillin and she is allergic to it.
our current doctor advises 150 mg of clindamycin. do you know of this drug? is it suitable? also, do you think it might help her condition?
The inflamed lymph nodes are usually a sign that there is an infection - and could possibly be a condition known as Cellulitis. Confirm whether she had any local cuts, a cold etc. -- which may have started the infection. Clindamycin is a good drug in this situation , although the dosing needs to be adequate( usually 300mg twice to thrice a day, sometimes even more ). It should be given along with a serratiopeptidase tablet ( to bring down the swelling ) , and a painkiller. If the swelling is continuously increasing she needs to be re-evaluated with a local ENT specialist.
