Swelling In Leg, Red And Bluish Appearance. Not A Blood Clot. Is It Cellulitis?

Hi I have some swelling in my right leg and an area which goes from red to a blueish color. Sometimes painful. I have had it checked for a blood clot and came back negative. When I asked my doctor about cellulitis which my Mom had he said, All that means to me is an infection No other help offered. Is there something I should do or take?
