Suggest Treatment For Tenderness In Breast And Under Arms

symptoms started w/tenderness in outer right breast & under arm for 2-3 days then red, bumpy, small rashes appeared on right top of breast and just outside armpit. rash is spreading, gland under arm swollen, pain and discomfort continues - what might this be. I am 65 yrs old

Hi,

Based on the history you seem to be suffering from herpes zoster (shingles). Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster (chickenpox) virus. After you have had chickenpox, the virus lies inactive in nerves near your spinal cord and brain. Eventually, it may reactivate and travel along nerves to your skin producing shingles.

There is no cure for shingles, however your doctor would prescribe antiviral drugs such as acyclovir which can speed healing and reduce your risk of complications. Your doctor would also add another medication gabapentin for the severe pain.
