Neurologist 's  Response
You will need to have a conversation with his neurologist who is treating him for the epilepsy to relay this information about his lethargy and fatigue. All Antiepileptic Drugs (AED's) have the unfortunate side effect of dulling a person's function in virtually every respect. That's also the way the medication prevents seizures. However, some medications are more than others. Given the number of drugs your son is on my guess is that his seizures are somewhat difficult to fully control. Therefore, there may be a tradeoff going on between controlling his episodes vs. trying to keep him fully awake and functional. This is the hard balancing act that only the neurologist can perform. You should also ask his doctor if he's checked his thyroid and adrenal functions to be sure those are optimal because if they're not then, adjusting them may improve the picture. Please rate this a 5 STAR RESPONSE & write me at: www.bit.ly/drdariushsaghafi with more questions on this or other topics.
