Hi Saravanan,

I have gone through the medical history of your mom carefully and understood your concerns.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that is often associated with various complications especially of cardio-vascular problems.

The swelling that your mom has developed in her legs are due to:
- kidney problems: consultation with nephrologist is needed together with urine analysis, kidney function test, abdominal ultrasound. I advise to run these tests first before consulting nephrologist.
- cardio-vascular problems: advise to run ECG, cardiac echo, holter monitoring, stress test to rule them out
- local vascular problems: deep vein thrombosis, run Doppler ultrasound of her legs blood vessels.

Depending on the tests results, specific treatment will be prescribed. Remember to monitor her blood sugar levels (bs) regularly and help her keep her bs within normal range.

All the best!
