hi
i read through your question and understand your concern.
Diabetes is also associated with peripheral neuropathy(decreased sensation in the distal regions like hands and legs) , so pls mention
-If she is experiencing
numbness of both legs
or one side.
-Similarly the numbness on the hands and face are on one side or both?(if one side , which side(L or R))
-If u want to see if she is developing any weakness, or
stroke. you can try a simple test:
ask her to lift both her hands perpendicularly in front of her .If both hands are at an equal level when she lifts them to 90 degrees, then you may not worry so much.
if there is a lag on one side or both, it is better to take her to the hospital.
Considering her age it is better to get a check up in the hospital for the foll. investigations:
-B.P
-
thyroid profile
(thyroid abnormalities may cause sensory disturbances,
though u have not mentioned any other symptom that suggests thyroid abnormality, studies show that thyroid abnormalities are more common among diabetic patients)
-blood sugar (fasting and post prandial),
microalbuminuria,Hba1c
{these may provide an overall blood sugar status and the damage that may have been caused due to diabetes}
-lipid profile
-homocystiene levels(this is a significant risk factor for future occurance of stroke) along with the above risk factors.
-E.C.G
-C.T OR M.R.I. depending on the results
These investigations will tell her current status and the probablity of wether she may get a stoke or not in the near future.
