Hi,

An ovarian cyst is a cyst located inside or outside the ovaries that are on one side or either side of the uterus. The cysts are classified as functional and others. Follicular and corpus luteal cysts are the two types of functional cysts found inside the ovary.

Dermoid cysts, cystadenomas and endometriosis are the other types of the cysts attached to the ovary from outside. The complications of the cysts are abdominal pain, bloating, swelling, pelvic pain, back pain, etc. Infertility is also complication of the cysts. Torsion is the emergency complication of the cysts. Management may be with drugs such as Oral contraceptive pills or surgical either through laparoscopy or by laparotomy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
