Suggest Treatment For Skin Rash And Body Pain When Diagnosed With Shingles

My mom has had a shingles rash with severe pain for three weeks. She was prescribed an antiviral med five per day for five days. The rash continues and the pan. Has worsened. She has to take hydrocodone every 3-4 hours and uses ice (not directly on skin) as well. Her eyes are weak and watery...so she is really scared! She is seeing the primary doctor Monday, but is there any thing that might help?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to shingles. I suggest using antiviral medication such as Acyclovir cream for local application. I also recommend using Acyclovir tablets for oral treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
