Suggest Treatment For Severe Itchy Painful Lump On The Vagina

I developed an itchy somewhat painful lump on left side of vagina, under the skin. Over the last day it has gotten about the size of a walnut & hurts more. Will it eventually go away? Is prep H helpful? Is it just an ingrown hair, a cyst, or could it be something serious? Getting a little worried. Thank you for your help.

Hello,

Severe itchy painful lump on the vagina is commonly due to folliculitis, ingrown hair, infection due to shaving, jock itch, fungal infection, etc. Serious medical conditions that can cause similar symptoms are genital warts, genital herpes caused by HPV. It can be sexually transmitted infections (STIs), allergies, and autoimmune disorders. You are suggested to take care of your hygiene, stop douching, many develop allergy due to latex(condom), be careful while shaving your genital area, wear cotton clothes, change undies everyday, avoid sex for a couple days.

Take regular bath and after patting dry apply ointment clotrimazole in the area affected. Ointment hydrocortisone is also equally affected. You can take a course of antifungals(fluconazole) to get rid of fungal infection. However, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a gynecologist, get STD and HPV tests done to detect any STI so that you can be treated at the earliest with antibiotics and anti-virals. Avoid multiple partners and always perform safe sex.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
