Suggest Treatment For Reduced Lung Capacity

My friend was in an acident. He fell into the grain car at work. Injured his knee.
Now 18 months later got bad cold, trouble breathing, easily tired. Xray shows
Stomach and intestines pushed totaly into shest cavity. Less than25 percent use of
Lung. Lung dying possibly. Dr doesn,t have a clue. Keeps sending him to specialist
Who don't know what to do. Help

In my opinion you should first consult pulmonologist and get done PFT (pulmonary function test) and quantify the severity of the decreased lung capacity by measuring FVC and TLC. Other things in PFT is restrictive pattern. And accident can cause restriction in chest wall movement and so in long run this will reduce lung capacity. The only thing you can do is vigorous chest physphysiotherapy and pulmonary rehabilitation and adult vaccination in the form of H.Influenza and pneumococcal.
