Suggest Treatment For Rashes On The Chest While On Verapamil

I was recently put on Verapamil 180 for Cluster Migraines with acute onset by my Neurologist. I saw my NP and she said to take Magnesium to help calm me so I could sleep at nite and now I have a rash all over my chest, stomach, back and arms. Is that the combination of the two together? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, the interaction between these two may cause heart rhythm abnormalities but doesn't express itself like a rash.

The rash can be due to drug allergies or benign drug eruptions and may need to stop both as verapamil has more possibility to cause it but better to stop both and consult a dermatologist.

Meanwhile, antihistamines like Cetirizine or Loratadine may be needed to control the ongoing allergic reaction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
