I have had a stomach virus for two days. Vomiting for 10 hours. Vomiting has stopped. Diarrhea is still an issue. My biggest concern is I have dull and very heavy chest pain, shoulder pains. Breathing is laborous and I get tired very easy. Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Given your symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting, it's very easy for you to get dehydrated there by leading to feeling tired and weak. If you can tolerated liquids and solids (eat and drink) then I would suggest you to take some light food along with plenty of fluids and oral rehydration solution that is available in pharmacy over the counter.

If you have chest tightness and difficulty breathing then it's recommended that you visit your physician to exclude any respiratory disorders. Diarrhea and vomiting can be due to a infection considering its acute onset in your case. Do not try any drug that can stop your bowel movement for a day or two.

If prolonged then you can consider taking probiotics but at this point of time over the counter oral rehydration, light food, rest would be my advise. Breathing difficulty visit physician. If diarrhea prolongs more than two days with fever - short course of antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manoj Pradeep
