Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremaic.com.
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
As per your description you are experiencing on and off episodes of cough, which need to be evaluated thoroughly.
I suggest you to consult a general practitioner and get the following things done:
1.Start a short course of antibiotics for five to seven days.
Levofloxacin is my personal preference.
2.You can try an expectorant cough syrup to clear the secretion.
3.Antihistamines like cetrezine would provide relief especially in
allergic cough.
4.Do warm saline gargles or gargling with a numbing mouthwash.
5.You can also do nebulization, which would provide good symptomatic improvement.
If the symptoms persist despite all these, additional investigations may be needed.Which might include:-
1.Sputum examination to rule out
tuberculosis.
2.Chest X-ray to rule out any lung conditions.
3.A
spirometry may may be needed to assess the severity of the disease.
As of now you have to quit
smoking and try to avoid smoke and dust.
Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
