Suggest Treatment For Persistent Fever

I began running a high fever on Tuesday night. The lowest it has been with pain relievers is 99. I have a dry cough and aches from the fever. No real appetite. My 18 year old son started with the same symptoms today. I have no pain in my chest, no sore throat, mainly the fever which is very hard to break. It spikes every three to four hours when the medication wears off.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain fever along with cough and aches can be due to most commonly viral infection and as the infection resolves once the virus completes its cycle, therefore the fever can spike as the effect of medication weans off..
It can take around 3 to 4 days to almost a week for the infection to subside..
I would suggest you to take Acetaminophen to reduce fever and Ibuprofen for body aches and discomfort..
You can also do cool sponges over the forehead and body extremities..
Take a light diet and drink plenty of water..
Take sufficient rest..
Avoid exertion and doing heavy work even when the fever goes down..
In case if the symptoms does not improve in 4 to 5 days or if symptoms worsen consult a General Physician and get evaluated and he can advise you a blood test to rule out the exact cause of the problem and treat you accordingly..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
