Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Ear Travelling Down To The Neck
in the past few days i ve developed what feels like an ear ache that has traveled down my right side of my neck and into that top portion of my shoulder. I exercise frequently (cardio/ weightlifting) 4-6 hrs a week and am otherwise very healthy. i originally thought that the issue was going the other way (from shoulder to ear) as i have had shoulder injury (smashed biceps tendon) in the past. Really starting to act up now (that turn your head thing when you get a shooter) Is this anti-biotic doctor visit or something over the counter....
Need to check your right and left ear as well.
Throat mastoid process
Your temperature
Neck glands
Looking at your skin for rash or otherwise
Check your right shoulder and neck movement
The possibilities are
- ear infection like otitis media or externa mastoiditis
- acute herpes zoster--shingle
- very painful neck gland inflammation from throat or sinus
Treatment is based on the diagnosis. I would order blood test, ear and throat swab or even high resolution latest CT on the neck area and right ear area to reach the final diagnosis, if the diagnosis cannot be made clinically.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Law, General & Family Physician
