hello mem,

welcome to HCM,

I understood your question and gone through your son's history. here are some explanations for u.

spikes in eeg at every 3 seconds considers as a abnormal eeg. it is best given to the patients who have involuntary tremors, and epilepsy. sometimes these abnormal involuntary movements cause permanent damage in brain which hampers the mental as well as physical growth.

Valparin contains Valproic Acid, it is commonly used to help prevent or control seizures and as a mood stabilizer. it can have an effect on brain function. The medication operates by regulating electrical impulses in the brain to prevent seizures from occurring.

Its side effects are as follows:
loss of appetite, vomiting, loose motions, heart burn are common
drowsiness, movement incoordination may be seen at higher doses
behavior problems may be seldom seen

Uncommon side effects like loss of some hair, curling of hair, increased weight and bleeding tendencies
liver may get affected and liver function tests should be monitored regularly

AS to stopping it, that depends on when and how it is done. If it is just suddenly withdrawn, rather than having the dose tapered, it could result in a rebound effect that may cause him to have more seizures, so you must carefully follow the doctors instructions for duration of use and stopping the medication.

thanks
