Suggest Treatment For Intense Abdominal Pain

Ouch! I am 25 and haven t had any abnormal problems w tampons in the past. Earlier today, I tried to remove my tampon and it felt stuck but came out after a tougher pull. My stomach hurt so bad for about a half hr after. The same thing just happened. The pain is very intense in my lower abdomen. My flow is fairly heavy so it wasn t a dry tampon and it was a regular size. Any suggestions as to what might b the cause? Im terrified to remove this one!

Hi,

The symptoms described are suggestive of a condition known as vaginismus. It is a condition where the muscles around the vagina involuntarily contract particularly when any sort of penetration is attempted. This can occur at any age or stage of life. Treatment requires examination by a gynecologist and treatment of underlying identifiable cause like possible infection. Anxiety is the most common cause and mental preparedness, relaxation and pelvic floor exercise helps controlling the symptoms to a great extent.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ayesha Shareef, General & Family Physician
