Hello,

Your wife is suffering from inflammation of the cervix and has been diagnosed to have fungal infection. She had pap smear test done and the cytology shows Torulopsis glabrata. She is suffering from yeast infection. She is suggested to abstain from sex or any other sexual activity for the time period she is being treated.

T. glabrata infections are difficult to treat and are often resistant to many azole antifungal agents, yes it is curable. People have been cured. However, if the infection reaches the blood stream it can have a high mortality rate.

She is prescribed Ginilac-V, a combination of Clotrimazole, Lactobacillus and Tinidazole; this medicine is only for vaginal application. She must wash her hands before and after using it. It is best to use this at bedtime regularly or alternately to get the most benefit. She should take care of the hygiene and clean out the vagina by gently washing it with water and removing any excess yeast.

She is prescribed AF-150, it is fluconazole and also AF- Kit. AF kit is a combination of Azithromycin, Ornidazole and Fluconazole to be taken orally. It will help to stop the growth of microorganisms and kill the existing ones that is causing the infection. For mild, uncomplicated, infections fluconazole is prescribed as a single 150, improvement occurs within one to three days.

If infection is severe, fluconazole can be prescribed as three consecutive doses and improvement is seen within one to two weeks. If symptoms continue despite appropriate treatment, fluconazole may be prescribed for ten to fourteen days, and even continued once per week for six months. All medicines have side effects. In case of any adverse effects, she should contact her treating doctor urgently.

She should add probiotic to her regular diet. Washing the private area with diluted apple cider vinegar may help (she should use it only after consultation with the treating doctor). Apple cider vinegar acidifies the vagina and stops the progress of yeast infection naturally.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
