Suggest Treatment For Diverticulitis Causing Infection In Colon

My Doctor told me I had diverticulitis at my last colonoscopy in 2014. He said there was nothing that could be done for it...no meds, etc. I had another attack today and really need assistance in managing it. In 2007, I had colitis and he gave me a medication to treat anthrax. I was good for several years. Now the past 3 or 4 years I been having difficulty again. My colon was very infected. Why was he able to give me something for the colitis and not the diverticulitis? I don t understand and what can I do to live with this? Thank you.

Hello,

Diverticulitis is infection involving part of colon with out-pouching of wall in form of diverticula. Management of acute inflammation does involve:
- Hospital admission
- Intravenous antibiotics
- Control of serum electrolytes
- IV fluids and bowel rest
- Steroid enema in selected cases

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
