Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Methadone is an opioid drug and even though the drug is also used in opioid deaddiction but if not used under proper prescription the drug is known to result in dependence. Best way to stop using drug is to wean off the doses gradually. But even if gradual reduction of doses is done you may suffer some withdrawal symptoms. Buprenorphine can also help to reduce the symptoms but for this drug you have to take proper treatment of opioid addiction. Drugs like Gabapentin or Pregabalin can be used to reduce the pain of withdrawal. Please visit a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
