Suggest Treatment For Brown-reddish Discharge With Barely Any Period Bleeding While Having Bloating

I have very light periods where my bleeding was nonexistent. I’m a 34 year old not pregnant, currently experiencing brown-reddish discharge. I’m taking iron supplements atm also my thyroid test came back normal and experiencing difficulty in losing weight. I weigh 58 kg which is too much. My belly seems bloated and exercising increases weight instead of losing. What should I do?

Hello,

Menstrual dysfunction and weight gain is most commonly due to hormonal imbalance. PCOD is the most common especially in this age group. To confirm the condition you can do a couple of tests more so that you do not miss other causes.

1. Blood count (anemia can cause menstural issues)
2. Serum prolactin level
3. Ultrasonography (ovarian volume and number of follicles - preferrably done on day 3 of cycle)

If these investigations comes back as normal or suggest PCOD life style modification is the first line of treatment. This includes following a healthy eating habit, adequate sleep, regular exercise and a stress free life.

Regular 30 mins exercise even if does not bring about any change in body weight because regular exercise itself can regularize hormonal imbalance though it takes time. Yoga can help if you have any stress related issues). If the test results comes back as normal you can consider taking a short course of oral contraceptives (3 months) after consulting your health care provider.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
