Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am suffering from anxiety and panic attacks, and recently when I move round the house I get worn out and have to sit down for a few mins as my heart seems to beat a bit faster . After sitting down for few mins my heart no longer seems to beat faster
I went through your details. I can understand. When you do some effort, including walking, the heart is supposed to beat faster. That is how the blood (with oxygen and food) reaches every body cells. This is a normal phenomena. But when you have anxiety disorder, you will be able to feel the palpitation (heart beats) even when you are resting. That is because you are being obsessive towards the movements within the body. That is also normal. Nothing to worry.
Panic attack is due to underlying anxiety disorder. You have to address your anxiety first. Talk to a psychological counselor to identify the reason for your anxiety and learn to manage it. Psychotherapy, meditation etc helps in manage anxiety. Mind you, anxiety disorder cannot be cured fully because it is your body's defense mechanism. Take care.
