Suggest Treatment For Abnormal Menstrual Bleed

I have started taking birth control about 3 weeks ago. I have had my period now twice. Its a dark brown almost black color with a red tint. Its also a dry blood clot. Im not actually bleeding heavy its really light just clotty. Should I stop taking the birth control or call my doctor or is this normal?

Hi,

The possible causes are:
- You are taking the pills irregularly, missing a dose or not taking pill at a fixed time of day, in such case you should stick to the exact schedule advised by your prescribing doctor.
- If you are taking progesterone only pill, menstrual irregularity is its known side effect. The irregularity decreases over the time of regular intake of the pills.
- The only precaution to be taken is to keep a good genital hygiene.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
