Suggest Therapy For Depression

Good morning doctor. My brother is suffering from some psychological problem which was identified by a doctor from our place as OCD. He was having behavorial adjustment problems earlier also but now for past 2-3 months he is not eating anything except for a glass of milk twice daily and that too without any sugar.He has become very weak and depressed and starts quarelling if told anything .I dont think he can be treated locally and I want to get him to NIMHANS , can you please guide me on this ??

He has been diagnosed with OCD and have multiple problems like adjustment problems, refusal to eat anything except milk since last 6 months. He has lost a significant weight and is very depressed. From the available history we can't make a suitable diagnosis. His refusal to eat anything except milk could be occurring due some psychotic episode. It could be due to depression with psychotic symptoms. I would advise you to consult a psychiatrist for evaluation. NIMHANS is located in Bengaluru and this is one of premier institute. The institute has speciality clinics for OCD, depression and psychosis. You can take him there.

For OCD and severe depression with psychosis medicines like high dose SSRIs are commonly used. Fluoxetine, Sertraline, Clomipramine etc drugs are used in OCD and depression.
