Suggest Safe And Long Term Contraceptives

Hi I am a 39 year old female with two kids via c-section. I have high blood pressure during my first pregnancy, which went away shortly after giving birth. During my second pregnancy my blood pressure went up at the start of my second trimester. My doctor had to deliver my baby due to preclampsia. My blood pressure has been high since then, which is controlled by medication. I am looking for a safe long term contraceptive. I have tried IUD'S (copper T which caused heavy bleeding which caused me to be anemic, this divice came out on it's own. I tried Marina in late April 2011, went back to check on the positioning of the string in July 2011, Doctor could not find it. I did an ultrosound but the divice was not located). What are my options?

Hi

All hormonal contraceptives may cause some side effects in most women.None of the contraceptive methods are completely safe.Since you have already tried IUD and Mirena, I would suggest you to use Low dose combination pills.

Drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol combination pills can be used.I would suggest you to visit your gynaecologist and discuss the various options based on any relevant contraindications.

Long term use of combination pills can cause weight gain, fluid retention, migraine, increased risk of thromboembolism and stroke.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
