Hello,

Welcome to Health Care Magic.

Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Saddiq ul Abidin. I have read you question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

Panic Attacks !
They can happen to anybody anytime so you don't need to worry. There are multiple medical and psychological ways to reduce the frequency of attacks and get rid of them completely.
Your doctor has prescribed xnax which is one of the drug of choice for treating panic attacks but they are very addictive so use them with caution and ask you attending physician about the effects as well.
However,if I were your physician I would have preferred behavioural and cognitive therapies. In these you need to find out the actual fear behind the cause and by being exposed to the fear factor in a controlled environment your husband can get over it. So do discuss about the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Exposure Therapy for Panic attacks with your Doctor.
As far as the medical treatment is concerned Antideppressants can be given with good results but these take about 3-4week to be effective so if prescribed your husband need to take them with patience. Benzodiazepines that is the xnax your husband is already taking is very helpful during the panic attack. So I would suggest you to continue.
As far as you are concerned you can help your husband by helping him learn breathing exercises, identify the fear factors, avoid smoking and caffeine and practice relaxation techniques. Hope this all will work with your cooperation.

I hope this answered your question. If you have more queries I am happy to answer.Otherwise rate and close the discussion
