Suggest Remedy For Mild Depression In Pregnancy

my wife has history of depression. Now she is pregnant and is in 4th month. She is taking progestrone soft gel 200 mg capsule since more than 3 months.Since last 3 days she is having mild depression symptoms. Please suggest if this is due to progestrone.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
If she is having symptoms just past three days only and was completely fine prior to that then that is more likely to be fluctuations of mood rather than mild depression. Generally speaking symptoms should last for at least two weeks to be labelled as depression. Progesterone can cause depressive symptoms but less likely to cause symptoms if the dose has not been changed in the past three months. For symptoms present for past three days, change in the environment, going for a picnic etc, doing relaxation exercise will help. If the symptoms persist or worsen then consult a psychiatrist
