Suggest Precautions To Be Taken After Having Treatment For Broken Pelvic Area

My daughter was run over by a car on feb 4th. she crushed everything from the waste down. she had 6 breaks in her pelvic area, broke both femurs, broke her fibula and fibula in one leg, broke her right shoulder. She is in the hospital now and since she cannot weight bare on at least 2 of her limbs, rehab will not take her and of course, the hospital(despite their desire) cannot keep her since insurance is saying that she is medically stable and she just needs her bones to heal prior to rehab. I am concerned with her pain management. My daughter is 15 years old. She will be released on this Wednesday. The hospital bed has already been delivered to my home. Doctors say she will not be able to get out of bed for about 6 weeks. Please advise on any concerns(outside of the obvious) that I should have and any suggestions you can give me would be most appreciated.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
I am very sorry for your daughter.I can understand your concern for her.Since she has sustained many fractures, and as your doctors advised, she needs to be in bed for a long time.During this period, you can follow these precautions
*use water bed so that she wont get pressure sores
*For pain she can take medications prescribed by her doctor, but as she needs to take them for a long time, its better to limit the use of pain killers for severe pain
*If possible taking physiotherapy at home will help her regain the movements gradually.
*Post traumatic depression is one more concern you must deal with patience.Always be with her, encourage her with positive words and keep her busy with reading good books
I wish her speedy recovery.I will be happy to answer any further concerns.
