Suggest Medicine For Recurring Headache

Sure, I ve had a recurring headache that starts in the middle of the night and lately lasts until mid morning. I get it every night and lately it is getting stronger and lasts longer into the day. Kind of hard to work with it pounding away. I take aspirin...but today aspirin is not working. Should I go see someone about this? Thank you for your advice!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Various types of medications can be prescribed to treat different types of headaches, such as migraines or tension headaches. However, it's important to identify the underlying cause of your headache before starting any medication.

In the meantime, you can try some non-pharmacological approaches to manage your headache such as:
- Applying a cold or warm compress to your head and neck.
- Taking a hot bath or shower to help relax your muscles.
- Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing method, meditation, or yoga.
- Avoiding triggers that may be causing your headaches such as certain foods or activities.
- Aspirin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that can help relieve pain and reduce inflammation, but it's not always effective for all types of headaches. Overusing aspirin or other pain relievers can lead to rebound headaches, which can make the headache worse.

Therefore, I recommend you see a healthcare professional to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. They may recommend prescription medication, further tests or refer you to a specialist if necessary.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
