Hello dear, My sympathies to you and your father. Unfortunately, I cannot hand you a diet. That would take a full review of current labs, all medications and supplements, clarify stutent medicine for secondaries and his typhoid, is it drug resistant? Please provide height and weight and age. To get more detailed information that you want, I would need additional information.

Since this is a complex situation, I suggest you come through the specialist portal and ask for me. You get to ask a primary question and some follow-up questions. Your other option is to seek out telemedicine clinics such as zest.md (most prevalent in India) or seek a dietitian in private practice/hospital.

In general, someone in your fathers condition should be monitored with regards to weight loss, dehydration (drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water per day), adjust sodium intake to blood pressure readings, may need to supplement with calcium and magnesium, amount of protein is related to diagnosis and lab readings as well as looking at current intake. Watch bowels and make sure to keep them moving, check blood work for presence of anemia and treat.

These are all things i would like to consider before giving you more specific guidelines. I hope the general guidelines give you some direction. It is so good of you to look after your father like you do. Good luck, my dear. Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
