Suggest Medication For Cold And Cough

Hi, My two month old baby has had cold and cough for the past one week. His pediatrician had prescribed two drops: one containing ambroxol and the other a combination of phenylephrine and chlorpheniramine. On administering these drops, however, he has been sleeping longer, sometimes difficult to arouse him from them. I guess this could be attributed to the combination drops. He has also been having spells of cough (roughly 3-4 coughs in 40 secs, at intervals of 15 mins) in the night. However, there doesn t seem to be any breathing difficulty. I would like to know if administering the combination drops is safe, considering that there are no concrete evidences of its benefit in infants. Additionally, I would also like to know if the bouts of cough are only the body s reaction to the irritants and how we can help ease the discomfort in the baby. Thanks, Worried Mom
