Suggest diet for a patient with high cholesterol level

Dear DOctor,
My husband is 45 yrs old. He has high cholesterol, high blood pressure and high uric acid. He works in the university and leads a hectic lifestyle. He smokes heavily. He's been suffering from severe headache lately. So, what foods would you recommend for his meals? Thank you very much.

Food is best guided by dietician. In principle light , low fat, low cab food with high roughage diet is recommended.

I can say that some herbal medicines must be started to support the existing treatment and prevention of upcoming complications.

Primarily lesser smoking, balancing Pitta humor vitiation, meditation, deep breathing, fresh air walks in a specific sequence should be adopted.

This can be done through Ayurveda and not only through diet plans.

In any case, at this age, proper decision should be taken to prevent further complications.

I have a new heart rate monitor. I am about 20 lbs overweight and have started spinning/biking class. I love it and feel great- my average heart rate is around 160 and the highest is usually around 180. HOWEVER, it has gotten up to 215 two times in the past 2 months. I am 39 and have good cholesterol levels. I also have a good heart- I have been to the emergency room twice in the past year for heart stuff- turns out I am allergic to Claritin D- but have had every heart test except for a stress test-I have TERRIBLE insurance and do not want to do unneeded tests but also don t want to have a heart attack.I have a new heart rate monitor. I am a 57 year old lady. Last year during a general check up my ECG revealed myocardial ischemia. My cholesterol and triglycerides levels were well within limits. I have been taking cardace 1.25 mg and ecosprin 75mg since then as advised by my physician. This year, that is on 2nd March I again opted for a general check up and found to my dismay that my total cholesterol (278 mg/dl) and triglycerides (189 mg/dl) levels had gone up. I have been now prescribed Lipikind. Also I have been given iron supplement as my Haemoglobin is 10.3 gms%. On the morning of 4th March (1 am to 2 am) I was having racing heart syndrome with heavy palpitation and very high pulse rate. My hands became numb and most part of my body had become cold. I became normal after 45 mts after my husband pressed/massaged my foot and leg. During the period when I had the syndrome I was constantly talking loudly about safety of my family etc. I visited the toilet immediately therafter and was completely relieved for the night. On the forenoon of 6th March around 11 am when I was just relaxing lying down after lunch the symptom of palpitation started. Immediately I pressed each palm with the other and massaged my fingers. The symptom died down after 10 minutes. My search on the Internet only shows that there are many out there having the symptom and have been living with it for even up to 3 years. But I just want to rule out some of the oft mentioned causes such as Thyroid problem, Magnesium deficiency and Mitral valve prolapse. I am told by a relative that a doctor in Mumbai says that this may be due to the new drugs (Lipidkind) I have started taking only some 4 days back and that this symptom will wear off soon. But please advise me.

My husband had his annual check up at 9:45, came home and 3-4 hours later died of coronary trombosis and hypertensive artherosclerosis cardiovascular disease. He was on medication for high blood pressure and his doctor knew that he also had high cholesterol. His doctor did not perform any stress test and he did not reccomended any angiograms or send him to see a cardiologist. That morning his blood pressure was 140/100 and doctor changed his high blood pressure medication and send him home.Is it possible that EKG did not show anything that morning? Is this a negligence? He was 48.
