Sugar Level Raised After Stopping Metformin, Glimiperide And Levimur And Taking Insulin. What To Do?

I just moved here and saw a new endo for my diabetes (type 1). I was taking 500mg metformin, 4 mg glimiperide, and 10-14 units of levimur. She told me to get off of the oral drugs and take just the insulin. So, I did and my morning #'s sky rocketed. I called her and told I was going back on the oral drugs. I saw her again last week and she did the same thing again and now my numbers are higher. What would you suggest?

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

There are two issues
1. when you are changing from oral tabs to insulin, the dose requirement needs to be fixed before you can get sugar controls again. the typical dose is individual to each person. so till you achieve that, continue to follow with your dr. dont keep switching. meet your dr and let her change the doses instead of switching to tabs again
2. if you were well controlled on tabs, what was the reason to change. very few dr change an ongoing successful therapy. discuss with her why she had to change the therapy.
3. make sure you are taking insulin in the right way using a correct syringe

maintain a record of sugars

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.
