Suffering from gangrene in the foot. Treated by a wound specialist, cannot have surgery. Prognosis?

My mother has gangrene in her foot and is being treated, but is not healthily enough to have surgery. I asked what happens next? She was being treated by a wound specialist in for the past month and has gotten worst. She was sent home from XXXXX Hospital and the attending Physican told us that it just a matter of time and her age is 87.
