Suffer From Cold And Flu, Blood In Mucus, Fever. Need To Go To The Doctor?

Hi there, I believe I've been suffering from a cold or flu. Now 9 days of it, throat, coughing with bloody in mucus, aching, fever. thought i was better, but then last 3 days I've lost my voice and I still have other symptoms and feel worse this morning . 34 year old female. Been taking paracetamol, hot water, lemon and honey, plenty of water and fruit etc. Should I visit my doctors or should I let it hang out for a few more days?

Hello

Thanks for consulting H.C.M.

I read your query regarding your illness- cough and cold for last 10 days and for last 3 days you are coughing out blood mixed sputum and today morning your voice is also changed, though you are taking lot of fluid orally along with tab Paracetamol.

According to your symptoms it appears as you are suffering from acute respiratory tract infection involving your larynx also thus giving hoarse voice.

Here I would like to suggest you these basic investigations which will be helpfull in planing future line of treatment. these are-

(a) Culture and sensitivity of throat swab.

(b) X-Ray chest ( PA view ).

(c) X-Ray Paranasal sinuses.

(d) Blood- CBC, ESR, Blood sugar (F & PP ).

Beside this a thorough examination of your respiratory system and there clinical co-relation with above relevent investigation one plan your treatment.

You are already getting supportive treatment but total 9 days are passed and today you have got laryngeal involvement as well, so here you have to add antibiotic and mucolytic expectorant in your treatment. Most effective antibiotic may be choosen from report of culture and sensitivity of your sputum.

I hope above had answered your query.

Regards.
