Suddenly Tired, Falls Asleep Wherever. In Nursing Home, Moved From Recliner To Wheel Chair. Any Ideas ?

my mother has all of a sudden become very tired and falls asleep even at the dinner table or when we are talking to her .this has only just happened in the last month . she is 89 years old. She is in a nursing home and she awas moved from her recliner to a large chair on wheels. Her son is very sick with cancer and she has already lost two sons ion the last 3 years. Mum has always been very bright and is very unusual for her.

Hi and thanks for the query,

I think she needs mainly psychological support at this point in time. I suggest you implicate a psychologist first in her care. Lack of motivation on positive thinking towards life will affect all aspects of her daily living., This could contribute to depression and loss of appetite. Excess sleeping could be a manifestation of depression. Family support and implication of a psychologist in her care, to me, are the main top priorities in her management plan for the moment. Thanks and kind regards.
