Stress Fracture In Fourth Metatarsal. Swelling, Numbness In Toe, Less Resistance. Cure?

I have a stres fracture in the fourth metatarsal. I suffered it 8 weeks ago. In week 3 my doctor put me in a boot. Now at week 8 I still get swelling and my fourth toe gets numb and does not have the same resistance as the other toes. I am concerned but I don' t know what to ask my doctor when I see him in 2 days. Pleas help.

Hello,
Welcome to healthcaremagic,
From you query i understood that you may be suffering from neurovascular compromise after fracture.
Because you have numbness as well as swelling in foot even after 8 weeks of fracture.
Stress fractures are caused by repetitive actions or impacts to the bones.
Stress fractures can also occur wearing less supportive shoes or increasing your mileage.
Stress fractures usually heals without immobilisation.
You must leave your running or any other athletic activities for at least 6 to 8 weeks after fracture.
You have to return progressively to your activity after 8 weeks.

Now you may be suffering from compartment syndrome.
so it is better to show this to your Orthopaedician immediately.
He may release the nerves and vessels from compression by edema.

You can prevent the further fracture by wearing proper shoes and limiting you activity for some weeks.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
