Stepped On Foot And Forced To Limp Because Of Pain. After Rest Had Little Pain When Force Applied

Hi, I stepped with force (running) on the outside of my right foot on the edge of a curb yesterday. I am forced to limp because of pain when walking normally. The pain is made much much worse the longer i walk and spreads underneath the arch and across the top at the middle. After longer periods of rest i can almost walk 100% for a little while with only tiny pain but as soon as I twinge it this ease goes away and once resting again it will hurt for quite a while. There is little to no swelling or bruising and no area of intense pain to touch (a slight achy pain when force applied to area of bone halfway down outside of foot). I'm not sure what to do about doctor's or not as i don't want to go for no reason.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us

If you are able to walk and able to move the joints of the foot actively then there is unlikely possibility of a fracture.
It could be only a soft tissue injury which generally subsides over a period of time spontaneously without any issues..Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based on the given description, I suspect that you could have suffered a SOFT TISSUE STRAIN of the tendons/ligaments/capsule of the midtarsal joints in the foot.

An MRI scan of the injured part is necessary to establish the exact injury.

Generally, soft tissue injuries needs adequate amount of rest to heal on their own. There are no medicines to hasten the healing process in these soft tissue injuries.

In the meantime, Avoid movements that produces pain, don't involve in sporting activities for atleast 2-3 weeks. Do ice packing as and when needed along with analgesic medications.

If your symptoms are not improving, approach an orthopedic surgeon for further assesment and management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
