Special Needs Daughter, Liquid Discharge From Breasts, Not Pregnant. Taking Risperidone, Kepra And Birth Control Pills. Remedy?

I have a 23 yr old special needs daughter. She takes risperidone, onfi, depakote sprinkles, kepra, vimpat and a birth control pill. The birth control only allows her to have a period every 3 months. She is currently having her period this week. We noticed she started having a liquid discharge from both breasts enough to make spots about 2" around. She recently had blood work and there was no mention of her being pregnant. . Any thoughts why this would be happening?

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

Since your daughter is on antipsychotic medication and antipsychotics are known to cause hyperprolactinemia, which may lead to galactorrhoea i.e unexpected female breast-milk production. Liquid discharge from both breasts may be due to this drug and even it cause irregular menustrual cyclel. Her blood work has no problemso it may be due to the drug.
Consult your doctor to discuss on different drugs she is taking with the problem and further management. Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take care.

Regards
Dr. Lohit
