Small Child, Constant Watery Eyes, Yellow Discharge, Coughing, Vomiting Phlegm. Causes For Symptoms?
My three year old has constant watery eyes that have to have yellow gunk cleaned out every morning and sometimes during the day. He also has a constantly runny nose and has started coughing until he vomits phlegm . I thought he had allergies at first but no OTC allergy product is helping nor are otc cold/ flu products for children.

Pediatrician, Infectious Diseases, Dr. Hema Yadav's Response
Hello,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic forum .
Your child seems to have a upper respiratory tract infection most probably bacterial which might not resolve on its own and will need specific antibiotic treatment.
The eye discharge is due to the nasal congestion as the eyes have puncta ( open connection with the nasal cavity).
Since you have already tried all OTC products its best to consult a pediatrician for a thorough evaluation and confirmation of diagnosis . Accordingly the doctor may then start appropriate treatment like antibiotics ( Cefixime , azithromycin etc) and antiinflammatory drugs along with mucolytics for relief of symptoms.
Meanwhile do give your child plenty of fluids and a nutritious diet which help in faster recovery.
Steam inhalations thrice daily will help too.
Wishing your child a speedy recovery.
Regards
